Welcome to the Department of Mathematics of Washington University in St. Louis.
Our website will tell you about our faculty, teaching, research, graduate students, colloquia, seminars, and other aspects of our department's life. We are a cutting-edge, research-oriented department comprising twenty five tenured and tenure-track scholars specializing in various areas of mathematics, including differential geometry, topology, real and complex analysis, algebra, algebraic geometry, combinatorics, and statistics. The faculty is augmented by three postdoctoral scholars, each having the title William Chauvenet Lecturer, who enhance the vibrancy of our environment. Our members publish in leading refereed journals, run lively seminars in various fields, and supervise approximately 35 graduate students. The Events page provides information about department colloquia, seminars, graduate colloquia, conferences, undergraduate math club talks, math circles, special lectureships, and other happenings.
My colleagues and I have a deep passion for our discipline which we share with each other through our collaborations and with our students through our mentoring. We are strongly committed to the quality of our teaching at all levels and we strive to make the experience of learning mathematics an inspiration.
There is much more I could say, but instead I direct your attention to the general category links above. Enjoy exploring our website.
