Colloquium: "Towards a Hausdorff Dimension Improvement in the Three Dimensional Kakeya Problem"

Abstract: We describe ongoing work with Josh Zahl. We describe and rule out two possible "structures"of Kakeya sets of dimension 5/2, one in which all scales are alike, and the other in which the Kakeya set fills out space at certain scales. We discuss how intermediate structures can also be ruled out.
