Algebraic Geometry Seminar: "Recent Developments in (Stable) Rationality--Part Two"

Roya Beheshti, Washington University in St. Louis

Abstract: These talks are on some recent advances in the study of stable rationality of varieties. After reviewing the classical example of Artin and Mumford, I will talk about the specialization methods of Voisin and Colliot-Thelene/Pirutka which give new examples of varieties that are not stably rational. I will also talk about unramied cohomology and rationality in families, and time permitting, discuss the result of Hassett-Pirutka-Tschinkel proving rationality is not defor mation invariant.
